- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RI.4.1 Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.
12) Apply content-based ESOL approaches to instruction.
Sticky notes are used to:
- Mark sections of text difficult to understand
- Mark sections that need clarification
- Mark powerful sections that would like to be shared
- Mark sections for discussion
- Inspire writing
Sticky notes are used with:
- Narrative texts
- Expository texts
In small groups, the students read silently to each other, marking areas in the texts that are interesting, humorous, or detailed. Students may mark any section of they book that they choose. Once students have had time to read a short while (5min). The teacher will ask each student to share with others their favorite sticky and why they chose that sticky note. This is great for ESOL students because it provides answers to questions that they might have and clarification to passages they do not understand.
